I looked at other remotes that sold for less money, but decided to go with Nikon. In testing, the remote worked from 12 feet away in a nearly 360° range, except for a couple of blind spots at the back quarters. A foot to either side found the camera. There was no need for a setup process, except for removing the battery shipping strip, which is clearly marked. The remote worked with my d3000 the very first time I pressed the button. It needs line of sight, but that's to be expected.

The lens cleaning kit that comes with the package is also of high quality. I probably wouldn't use the microfiber cloth on my lens, but it works great for eye glasses.

Now and then, I find myself wishing I had a remote control shutter release...and then I saw this. For the price, how could you go wrong? It worked perfectly with my Nikon D5000. You just have to set the camera to recognize the remote control in the menu settings. Very easy to use, and if your camera is set to auto focus, it does focus before taking the photo, just like it would if you're holding the camera yourself.

Convenience - I can't give 5 stars, when a second thing to bounce around and get lost or forgotten is needed. But assuming I have it with me, it does its job extremely well! It is so incredibly basic, and it just works.

Comfort - It is small enough to fit in my smallest pocket, and it fits easily in the hand, when in use. It is small enough that it is easy to have it virtually invisible in the photo, too.

Range - I haven't tried to use it outside of its range. For the distances involved in the group picture/self portrait environment, it works great. The main reason I purchased it was to take low-light pictures without inducing camera shake. It was the complete answer to what I wanted to do. I can press the button on the remote to open the shutter, and then press it again to close it, all without camera shake, beyond whatever movement the mirror operation might cause.

Ease of use - It has one button. It can't get any easier to use.

Picture quality - As I said, I got it to take "bulb" pictures without camera shake, and it makes it as good as it can get.

Nice and compact - It is about half the size of a credit card, and less than a quarter inch thick. It can fit in any pocket or pouch without a problem.

I've rarely seen anywhere that I could spend so little money, and get so much value. It just works!

Defiantly worth having in your camera bag. The IR range kinda sucks but once you get the hang of the limitations you open a world of self portrait and still life photo possibilities.

Beware of cheaper knock off remotes... mine works about the same but is nearly twice as big. Spend a couple of bucks more and go with the real deal.

On the other hand I also have a cheap Chinese radio wireless remote that is far more reliable.

I have had this camera for a long time. I have dropped in the water, left it outside during a down pour, and have dropped it hard several times, and it still worked through all of that. I left it out in the rain again a second time and it finally gave out. This camera takes really nice pictures too. I love Nikon brand.

After several years of use with this camera I can honestly say that its the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned!!! If you are taking outdoor pictures in sunglight, it's fine, but indoors...FORGET IT!! Too dark and very blurry. The flash is useless!

You are better off with a disposable than this.

This camera is one that I use for work purposes. We bought this one after going through a couple of other ones in the past 5+ years. I have had several point & shoot digital cameras of my own. This camera is, by far, the WORST camera I have ever used. The main reason for this is that all pictures taken indoors are extremely dark. We bought 3 of these for work, and all three of them have the same issue with the dark pictures, so it's not just mine in particular. The camera has a feature called D-lighting that you can use after a picture is taken, which lightens the whole picture. It does help lighten a picture, but it has to be done for each and every indoor picture, which is a huge pain, to say the least. And, when you use the feature, it saves the lighter one but still keeps the bad/dark one. So after I use D-lighting for each and every picture, I had to go back and delete the bad/dark one. Because the camera has this feature, it makes me think that Nikon knew that the dark pictures were a problem to begin with. What I finally ended up having to do was put the setting on "night portrait" for all indoor pictures. It makes the pictures lighter, but it takes a really long time to reset and be ready for the the next shot. The other issue with this camera is that if anyone is moving at all, the picture will be slightly blurred. I honestly cannot believe that this camera is still being sold.

"Does not age gracefully" 2008-09-12

When I first got this camera, I loved it. It was fast, clear, compact. I recommended it to my mom and she got the same camera.

I dropped it one time and the battery case broke. It stays closed... but just barely. When I came home on Christmas break, I saw that my mom's had broken in the exact same way. So I think that's a definite design flaw. It also slowed down considerably within weeks. The time that the flash took to recharge was excrutiating. I missed so many good photo ops because of how long it took between pictures. The batteries also die very quickly in this camera.

It is also difficult to find a good setting for indoors. Most of my indoor pictures are really blurry or I look like I'm glowing white from the flash... there didnt seem to be a good in between. Outdoors, it did work ok. I took some decent shots on it.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this. It's frustrating, and created a bad image of Nikon for me. Even if they do have some nice cameras, I'm switching over to Canon now.

This camera is junk. The lens jams, the shutter time is slow and the time between shots with the flash is super slow. The pictures are often dark with a funny hue. The focus is not great either. The only time it does okay is outside in full sunlight.
